Wine Club Mataro
The Llano Estacado Wine Club is a perfect venue for us to showcase small, handcrafted batches of wine. Additionally, it affords us the opportunity to recognize the Llano growers whose hard work allows us to make these special lots.
The mourvedre grape used in our Mataro was sourced from the Mont Sec vineyard in Far West Texas. The grapes were fermented hot with daily, light pump-overs used to limit tannin extraction. When fermentation was complete, the grapes were gently pressed into stainless steel tanks for settling, and racked into 225-liter (neutral) oak barrels to age undisturbed for 14 months before bottling.
The 2013 Mataro is our version of Pinot Noir, light, jammy, and complex. Made in a lighter style, it exhibits savory food aromas and flavors, silky smooth tannins, and just a touch of tasty oak on the finish.
